Add live chat to your Shopify store

The chat goes on your site with one line of code. Paste it once and it shows on every page, answering from your own pages, with your team one click away.

Before you start

You need a SupportVia account with your website added. Start free if you haven’t yet: no card needed.

Then copy your snippet: in the dashboard, open Websites, choose your website, and copy the code under Add the chat to your website. It looks like this, with your own key:

<script src="https://my.supportvia.app/widget.js"
        data-key="pk_8f2c…" data-website="1" async></script>

Add the snippet to Shopify

  1. In your Shopify admin, open Online Store, then Themes.
  2. Next to your current theme, open the … menu and choose Edit code.
  3. In the Layout folder, open theme.liquid.
  4. Paste the snippet just before the closing </body> tag, and save.

Check it’s working

Open your website in a private window. The chat button shows in the bottom right corner, or the bottom left if you moved it in the dashboard.

Once the chat has loaded on your site, the website’s page in the dashboard says Live on and your domain. Ask the chat something your website answers, and the conversation shows up in your inbox.

If the chat doesn’t show

  • Each theme has its own code. If you switch to another theme later, add the snippet to its theme.liquid too.
  • The chat shows on your store’s pages. Shopify’s checkout doesn’t load your theme’s code, so it doesn’t show there.
  • The chat runs only on the websites you’ve added, and their subdomains (such as www). For another address, such as a staging site, add it under Where it runs in the website’s settings.
  • If the button covers something, such as a cookie banner, choose the other corner in the dashboard, or move it up on that page with CSS: chat-connector-widget { --cc-bottom: 96px; }
  • Still stuck? Ask in the chat on this page, and someone from the team will help.
